Private Muslim Cemeteries Near Jakarta: Al-Azhar, San Diego Hills, and More

Jakarta's public cemeteries are crowded, lease-based, and increasingly dependent on makam tumpang (overlapping graves). For families who want a permanent, dedicated plot with guaranteed Shariah compliance, private memorial parks outside the city offer a fundamentally different experience — at a fundamentally different price point.

Here is what the major private cemeteries near Jakarta cost and what you get for that investment.

Al-Azhar Memorial Garden (Karawang)

Al-Azhar Memorial Garden is the most prominent Shariah-compliant private cemetery serving the Jakarta metropolitan area. Located in Karawang, West Java (roughly 70 km east of central Jakarta), it is managed by PT Nuansa Usaha Mandiri.

What makes it Shariah-compliant: All plots are aligned with the qibla (direction of Mecca). No overlapping graves — every plot is a single, permanent burial. The cemetery accepts only Muslim burials. Maintenance is included in the upfront purchase price for the lifetime of the cemetery.

San Diego Hills (Karawang)

Comparing Private vs Public
