Does Everyone Who Attended Need a Card?

No. You do not need to send individual thank you cards to every person who walked through the door. The expectation breaks down like this:

Collective Acknowledgment Options

When you need to thank a large group without writing 80 individual cards:

For a memorial website or social media post: "Our family is deeply grateful to everyone who attended [name]'s memorial service on [date]. Your presence was a profound source of comfort, and we are humbled by the community of love that surrounds us. We will be reaching out personally to many of you in the coming weeks."

For a newspaper acknowledgment: "The family of [name] gratefully acknowledges the many friends, relatives, and community members who attended the memorial service. Your kindness and presence meant more than words can express."

Timing

Attendance-only thank you notes are the lowest priority in your acknowledgment queue. Focus first on people who brought flowers, made donations, provided meals, or performed a specific role. Attendance acknowledgments can go out later — even a month or two after the service — without causing any offense.
